My husband is the BEST!

My husband is the most awesome person on the face of the planet. Seriously, he really is. Tomorrow is our 5th anniversary (yes, on the 4th of July, Independence Day, LOL!) and, unfortunately, he has to work. While I am disappointed, I totally understand. His show is so short-staffed right now that if he took the day off the show wouldn’t be able to run and Cirque du Soleil would be out 100s of thousands of dollars. Tonight, we are going to watch the Las Vegas Aviators play in the new ball park and watch the fireworks after the game, which should be lots of fun! https://www.milb.com/las-vegas

Last night we went to dinner at Mon Ami Gabi, which I love!  https://www.monamigabi.com/las-vegas/ so he has more than made up for the fact that he has to work on our anniversary.

Last week he did something that I never would have expected, and he surprised me with something that I have wanted to do since I was a kid. If you’ve read some of my previous posts, you know that I LOVE animals. For years every time that we visit the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, I threaten to sneak inside the sloth enclosure so I can pet a sloth. http://www.omahazoo.com/

Zach found a sloth named Winchester that lives here in Las Vegas. I have been following Winchester on social media for quite a while, but I didn’t realize that it was possible to actuality hold him. https://www.friendsofthewild.org/hang-with-a-sloth Zach set this up and didn’t tell me what we were doing other than, “it’s a surprise.” So, I didn’t ask any questions. Normally if someone told me that they got to meet a sloth in downtown Las Vegas I would have major issues with this. I would think that the sloth is being mistreated because it’s out of it natural habitat, but Winchester’s handlers are very conscious of how Winchester is feeling, who he likes & doesn’t, if he’s tired or hungry, happy or angry, and just his general overall contentment. When we got there, I was told to sit on a couch and I still didn’t know what was going on. The handler then went behind a screen and brought out Winchester and my heart leapt into my throat! I was told that I needed to remain calm but all I wanted to do was squeal with excitement. The handler had to tell me a couple times that I needed to be calm which I tried hard to do which wasn’t easy. He brought Winchester over and sat him on my lap and apparently, he liked me because he felt calm enough to fall asleep on my shoulder for a little while. He sat with me for about 20 minutes and then when he was done his handler put him in a large dog crate with a hammock built in and rolled it over to us and I fed squash and vegetables him for about 25 minutes. His handler told us more about Winchester and about the nonprofit that they started so they could have him and other animals and educate the public about the animals. Winchester only meets people for 45 minutes per day up to 5 days per weeks. He also will only meet people between the hours of 1PM-5PM because when he gets woken up before then he can be very cranky. He is well taken care of but can be temperamental, as all wild animals can so it is good that his handlers know him well enough and can sense how he is feeling. This was seriously, one of the greatest experiences of my whole life.
